DEAR EDITOR,
I vividly remember during the launch of Carifesta X, the People’s National Congress (PNC) was protesting against the staging of Carifesta here in Guyana.
I even noted some public statements/slogans of the People’s National Congress and its leader during their protest marches, some of which included: “No Sharma no Carifesta”, “Making Carifesta Unmanageable”, “The mother of all protest marches one week before Carifesta”, “Boycott Carifesta”, and “No Carifesta” among others.
I now ask the question, is it coincidental or by design that the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports came under heavy gun fire by assailants a few weeks ago and then now the National Cultural Centre (NCC), a main Carifesta venue, being set ablaze, as well as an attempt to blast the building?
I know for sure that Carifesta X is certainly on. Preparations are well advanced and all patriotic Guyanese are getting involved in one aspect or another.
Attacks like these only serve to show the narrow mindedness of those individuals involved as well as their nefarious political agenda to tarnish the image of this mega festival that Guyana would be proudly hosting.
We must all play our part as to ensure these anti national, unpatriotic, and these devious individuals do not succeed in interfering or sabotaging the staging of this event, which will put Guyana on show to the rest of the world.
