DEAR EDITOR,
I do not agree with Freddie Kissoon calling the ruling PPP/C Government a dictatorship.
Too often now he is starting to sound exactly like those who oppose everything Government does or does not.
I disagree with Freddie when he says the man who single handedly brought democracy to Guyana is Dr. Walter Rodney.
First, it was the mighty USA that put the PNC and Burnham in power in Guyana.
Second, it was the mighty USA that kept the PNC and Burnham in power.
Third, it was the mighty USA that removed the PNC from power through free-fair and transparent elections.
The mighty USA could no longer sustain and support an illegal dictatorship in PNC and was ready to right the wrong it did to the masses of Guyanese.
The will of the Guyanese had spoken through ballot boxes across our nation in 1992. Freddie, as I can recall, it was during the PNC reign that Dr. Rodney was assassinated.
I cannot recall if you or anyone had called on the PNC for an inquiry into the assassination of a great man in Dr. Rodney. Ok, let’s say the PPP/C start an inquiry into the assassination of this great man Rodney.
Will you ask those in the then PNC who are now in the PNCR to testify under oath?
What if PNC members with pertinent information to the assassination of Rodney refuse to testify?
Failing to testify under oath, should those now in the PNCR be arrested and be compelled to testify for the assassination of Rodney?
Freddie, your call for a multi racial political party to compete, oppose and depose the PPP/C is good.
Now I ask Freddie Kissoon the big question.
What happens then if the PPP/C wins again in free, fair and transparent elections by a majority?
Will you and those you are advocating for then ask the international community, including the USA, to disband the PPP/C, remove it from office and replace it with a multi racial political party?
Is this what you are really advocating? You said lots of people in the PPP/C party do not like Jagdeo but are afraid to say so.
Giving you the benefit of doubt that this may be true and they are afraid to speak out as you say, Freddie, the same could be said for you and me too, since lots of people do not like my letters and call them atrocious and appalling.
I attended the same Muslim wedding you attended last July. People were saying the exact same thing about you too. Some even shuddered to think that you might have gone on to the wedding stage to make a speech.
Some people said that if you go up there and make a speech and you mentioned politics they will not take it.
So just like Jagdeo, not all people would like you and me for that matter.
On a more serious note, we won’t be witnessing what is happening in our country today if the Guyana security forces were 110% behind this democratically elected Government.
We won’t be witnessing what is happening in our country today if all opposition political parties supported this democratically elected Government and act like opposition should.
You, I and most Guyanese know that all opposition political parties in Guyana want nothing more than absolute power.
Do you think for one moment that opposition political parties have the Guyanese people at heart first and foremost?
For once let’s ask them all for support and co-operation on crime and corruption and see what happens.
If this Government does not produce in being representative of all Guyanese, then throw the bums out of office at the next general elections.
Then and only then we can cry racial discrimination, marginalization and disenfranchisement and call this PPP/C Government dictatorship.
Isn’t this the fair thing to do?
T. King
