One of the AK-47s recovered from the bodies of Cecil Simeon Ramsarran, 42, and Robin Julius Chung, called Chung Boy, 15, was the property of the Guyana Defence Force.
The firearm was lost during an ambush of a team of soldiers by armed men at Buxton on January 23, 2008, where Corporal Ivor Williams was shot and killed, a release from the Joint Services stated last evening.
And ballistics tests done so far on the two AK-47 rifles recovered from Ramcharran and Chung, at Goat Farm, Berbice River, last Monday, have revealed that they were both used in the February 17 slaughter at Bartica in which 12 persons were killed.
The tests have also revealed that one of the firearms was used during the January 26 massacre of 11 persons at Lusignan and on December 16 last year when Fazal Hakim and Rajesh Singh were killed during a robbery/murder at Triumph, East Coast Demerara.
Police had long suspected that the gang, which Ramcharran and Chung were a part of, was responsible for the two massacres which plunged the nation into a state of mourning.
A police press release stated that ballistics tests are still being done on exhibits collected at other scenes.
Meanwhile, the bodies of Chung and Ramcharran were positively identified yesterday by relatives.
Ramcharran was identified by one of his sisters, while Chung, 15, was identified by his aunt.
Both were shot dead during the confrontation with members of the Joint Services at Goat Farm, Berbice River, last Monday.
Police say that the security forces are still on the hunt for other members of the gang which they say include wanted man, Rondell Rawlins, called ‘Fine Man’, for whom a $50M reward is being offered.
The authorities believe that Rawlins is among a group of armed men who hijacked a bus in the Ituni trail on Monday after robbing the passengers who were heading to Linden.
Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that following diligent investigations conducted, four men were arrested in a house at Retrieve, Linden on Tuesday, on suspicion of harbouring Rawlins.
Up to yesterday the men were still in police custody assisting with the investigations.
And in another incident, police conducted a search on a house at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown, on Tuesday and unearthed 19 rounds 7.62 x 39 ammunition, which is used in the AK-47 assault rifle.
A man and a woman have been arrested and are assisting with the investigations.
