An abusive relationship took a turn for the worse in the early hours of last Sunday morning when Duncan ‘Wikki Wikki’ Alleyne repeatedly and severely chopped his reputed wife of sixteen years about the body, causing her to be hospitalised.
Thirty-one-year- old Simone Fiedtkou is presently a patient at the Bartica Hospital nursing gaping wounds to her leg, both sides of her head, and other parts of her body.
Alleyne is reportedly in Police custody, and charges are expected to be laid shortly.
Fiedtkou’s family members believe that this latest incident could have been avoided had the Police taken more strident actions against previous reports made by the injured woman.
The relatives claim that over the years numerous reports have been made to the Police about Alleyne’s abusive ways, but the Police have done little about it, saying that it is a ‘husband and wife situation’ and they do not want to get involved.
“They would advise her to make up with her husband, and on one occasion an officer told her that she must have done something wrong to incur his (Alleyne’s) anger,” one relative claimed.
This newspaper understands that, apparently unable to withstand the abuse, Fiedtkou moved out of the home she shared with Alleyne and their three children, a few weeks ago, and moved in with her uncle and his family.
Relatives told this newspaper yesterday that, immediately following the woman’s move, Alleyne came to Fiedtkou’s uncle’s house and threw her and their children’s clothing on the bridge.
“He made it clear that he did not want her anymore,” Fiedtkou’s uncle explained.
Fiedtkou reportedly reciprocated this sentiment by reportedly telling Alleyne that she did not want him anymore and that he should only take care of his children.
Time passed, Fiedtkou‘s uncle explained, and eventually the young woman began to have ‘casual conversations’ with a young man who was also living in Bartica. This triggered Alleyne’s anger and jealousy.
The man reportedly began to threaten Fiedtkou, telling her relatives that when he is done with her, they will not be able to recognise her.
He reportedly warned them that he would, ‘damage’ and kill her.
“All of these threats were reported to the Police, and they did nothing,” the woman’s uncle lamented yesterday.
The man related that once, mistaking her aunt for Fiedtkou, Alleyne waited in a trench to ambush her.
“After he realized it was her aunt, he backed off, but told Fiedtkou, See, I coulda kill yuh auntie jus’ now cuz I tek she fuh you.”
Reports indicate that, in the early hours of Sunday last, Fiedtkou had just followed her friend outside of a nightclub she was partying at in Bartica when her reputed husband attacked her.
“She followed a friend outside at approximately 3:30 hours to put her friend in a taxi. After the taxi had left, Alleyne apparently came to Fiedtkou and asked her to follow him somewhere as he had something he wanted to tell her.
She refused, and enraged, Alleyne reportedly grabbed her by the hair and dragged her away.
A bystander noticed this but thought nothing of it, dismissing it as a marital squabble. However, a short while after, screams were heard coming from the dark corner where Alleyne had dragged the woman. The screams alerted bystanders, who went to Fiedtkou’s rescue.
Fiedtkou’s condition is listed as stable.
Her relatives relate that, although hospitalised, the woman is still receiving calls from Alleyne and is concerned that he may still have his cellular phone on his person despite the fact that he is in custody.
“Alleyne has been calling Fiedtkou and asking her to drop the case against him, asking her to bear in mind the fact that they have children together,” one relative stated.
The brutal attack comes just days after Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Priya Manickchand, launched the national Domestic Violence Policy (DVP) under the theme ‘Break the cycle – take control.’
And recently, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee lashed out at Police officers who are unsupportive of women who are abused. The minister said, “Police may have a non-supportive attitude, which is justified in that the very rank is a product of our society and condones violence against women… weakness observed was the reluctance of Police to be aggressively involved in taking and following up on complaints of domestic violence”
