A United States medical team from the 4215th United States Army Hospital is now in Linden offering care in the areas of general medicine and basic dentistry at the Linden Hospital Complex out-patient clinic at Mackenzie every day through June 25.
The 44-member team, which includes doctors, dentists, nurses, veterinarians, and medics, is also scheduled to be at the Ituni Health Clinic today and again on Friday.
According to the embassy this visit by the US Army Hospital team is part of an ongoing commitment to improving the health of the Guyanese people.
Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of the United States of America, Arnold Campbell, will be conducting a tour of the operations at the Linden Hospital Complex tomorrow.
The visit of the army hospital team is the first of three major medical missions to Guyana by U.S. military personnel in 2008. A team that specializes in tropical medicine will provide treatment and services in and around Lethem in August; in November, the U.S. Navy Ship Kearsarge will dock off Guyana’s coast for two weeks to carry out a mission in Region One that will be similar to that of the USNS Comfort in September 2007— general and specialized medical treatment, dentistry, and veterinary services, with surgical procedures carried out aboard the ship.
