The fifteen teams that will contest this weekend’s Kazak Vodka countrywide dominoes playoffs sponsored by Banks DIH have been named for what is expected to be a fierce two days of dominoes rivalry at Banks DIH Sports Club at Thirst Park.
The teams are Exodus, Pressure Point, Rage and Blue Birds ‘B’ representing Georgetown, Tone, Brave and Frankies from West Demerara, Untouchables (East Bank Demerara), Royal Champions (Linden), Blood Sport (Bartica), Adventure Sports Club (Essequibo), Bottom End, Upset (East Coast Demerara), Top Gun (West Berbice) and Archway (East Berbice).
These teams came out victorious in the respective zones and will now battle for several attractive prizes.
Guyana National Dominoes Federation (GNDF) Tournament Coordinator Wendell McPherson disclosed that three rounds will be played on Saturday starting at 13:00 hours, while three more rounds will be contested on Sunday but play is expected to start at 11:00 hours.
The Berbice Zone was completed last Saturday with Archway winning the East Berbice Zone from Trappers and King Fish. Archway tallied 83 games while King Fisher secured 73 games and Trappers ended on the carpet with 69 games.
Quacy Cort and Sydney Cort led the scoring for the winners with 17 points each, while Clement Lashley supported with 13 games. Kelly Joseph and R. Submunarine scored 14 games each for King Fisher while D. Singh with 13 games was the top marker for Trappers.
Earlier, Archway scored 80 games to beat Trappers on 76 and Terminator 59 in the semi-finals. Rawelton Boodhoo marked the maximum 18 games for Archway M. Haniff and A. Bassant had 16 apiece for Trappers while M. Joseph of Terminator was the lone love bird.
The overall winners will take home $300,000, a trophy nine medals and six cases of Kazak Vodka, while the runners-up secure $200,000, nine medals as well as five cases of Kazak. Third place will receive $100,000, fourth $75,000, fifth $50,000 and sixth $25,000 in addition to trophies and Kazak Vodka.
The organisers have also included additional prizes in this year’s event including most valuable player (MVP) at the Playoff stage as well as a Female MVP to encourage female participation.
