Relatives of 82-year-old Margaret Sinjuste found the elderly woman’s bound body in her bed at 418 Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens shortly after 21:00 hours last night. Death appeared to be due to strangulation.
The dead Sinjuste was partly crippled, and her relatives said that she cared for many of those who now cared for her in her final years. When her body was found, the hands were bound behind her back and she was partly nude.
The landlord, who lives in the bottom flat, said that the suspect, identified as a young man no more than 25 years old, went home at about 17:00 hours, and soon after, he began playing loud music.
The Police say that when they questioned the suspect, he claimed that he was unaware that something was amiss in the house. He is in custody.
When Kaieteur News arrived on the scene, shortly after 21:00 hrs, two vehicles, including one dark-coloured pickup, were on scene.
A Police patrol pulled up shortly after to investigate a report of an abandoned vehicle, only to discover that it was a Police vehicle at the crime scene.
Neighbours were mum on the incident, and up to late last night, investigations were still continuing.
Cane View Avenue is the southernmost street in South Ruimveldt facing the cane fields.
