The Berbice Football Association U-15 League competition continued last Saturday at the All Saints Scot’s Church Ground with three games. There were wins for Corentyne Links, Rosignol United and New Amsterdam United with Real Union gaining a walk over from Monedderlust.
Rosignol United were the biggest winner on the day with a 6-0 drubbing of fellow West Bank Berbice team and newcomers Barzilla who were given a rough baptism to the tournament. Nigel Kewley scored a double, while there were one each for Mohammed Ally, Akeem Kadir, Heram Inniss and Jermain Archer.
The biggest upset for the day was created by another newcomer as Corentyne Links of Upper Corentyne scored a 1-0 win over Paradise Invaders of West Berbice.
The Corentyne lads who are playing in their first competition of such nature, made sure that their 50 odd mile travel was not in vain as they stunned one of the pre tournament favourites with a goal late in the second half off the boot of Albert Anderson.
In the mean while, pre tournament favourites New Amsterdam United Football Club (NAU) continued their unbeaten run in the competition with a hard fought 1-0 win over fellow New Amsterdam team Hearts of Oak Juniors. The prolific Sherwin Halley was the marksman, blasting home from close range late in the second half.
The other scheduled match between two West Berbice teams Real Union and Monedderlust was not played because the latter fail to show for the second week in succession, thus conceding a walk over to Real Union. New Amsterdam United lead the points tally so far with seven.
The tournament will continue next Saturday with four more games at the same venue.
The competition is being coordinated and supervised by members of the Hearts of Oak Masters Football Club. Former national players Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey and Sam Jones along with Nigel Felix and Kenrick Bowery are the men in charge.
