A Trinidadian man whom Police accused of sexually molesting two sisters has been committed to stand trial at the next sitting of the High Court.
The accused, Christopher Bellille, nicknamed ‘Trini’, is charged with two counts of carnal knowledge committed on the twin girls, who were eight years old at the time.
Prosecution contends that Bellille had carnal knowledge of one of the children at Boerasirie Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, some time between August 1 and 31, 2005.
The 43-year-old man is also alleged to have repeated the acts with the victim’s twin sister between January 18 and September 30, 2005.
Magistrate Fazil Azeez informed Bellille that a sufficient case was made out against him to warrant a High Court trial before a judge and jury.
The preliminary inquiry was conducted at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court.
Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambajue led several witnesses, who testified that Bellille had once resided in the lower flat of the same building as the victims.
It is alleged that he clandestinely compelled the children into sexual activity at Boerasirie Housing Scheme.
The parents testified that they reportedly observed unusual, physical changes in the children and notified the Police.
Further investigation followed by medical checks revealed that the children were sexually assaulted.
Before the start of the PI, the Legal Aid Clinic indicated that they had filed legal proceedings seeking a protection order for the twins.
As a result of the disclosures, Magistrate Azeez said that he was not prepared to release Bellille on bail until the determination of the PI.
The magistrate said the court was very hesitant to grant bail because of the fact that the accused was not Guyanese and the allegations involved repeated acts of molestation.
