The Agricola Inter-Block Football tournament, which is being sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, commenced recently with several matches.
Games are due to continue, with the conclusion of the event expected shortly. The tournament involves four teams; First, Second and Third Streets and the Housing Scheme.
Fourth Street overcame First Street 1-0, with Nigel Chisholm scoring the winner in the opening encounter. Housing Scheme won on penalty kicks over Second Street with Brian Lewis, Colin Richie and T. Harris ensuring their team secured victory from the spot.
Second Street rebounded from their earlier loss to edge First Street on penalties after the contest ended scoreless after regulation play. Dexter Wray, also a talented amateur boxer and Clive Boyce saw their team through.
Housing Scheme maintained their unbeaten run with a win via the penalty kick route over Fourth Street after a scoreless early portion of the match.
The Inter-Block tournaments is the brainchild of Parliamentary Secretary Steve Ninvalle with tournaments at BV, Victoria, Ann’s Grove and Linden either concluded or underway and several other areas scheduled to commence shortly including Mahdia.
