Victor Richards, a 25-year-old labourer, was on Thursday granted bail after answering three charges in connection to the possession and usage of forged currency notes.
It was alleged that on June 9, at Grove, East Bank Demerara, with intent to defraud, Richards uttered a forged US$100 to a senior police rank knowing it to be forged.
It was also alleged that on the same date he had two forged currency notes in his possession.
Richards, of Lot 90 North Timehri, was represented by Attorney-at-Law Paul Fung-A-Fat who made a bail application.
The lawyer said that Richards had no knowledge that the bills were forged and that the contentious bills had different serial numbers.
According to Fung-A-Fat, nothing has been lost since his client only attempted to purchase a bottle of whiskey for $12,500 but did not succeed.
Police Prosecutor, Denise Griffith, did not object to bail and Magistrate Robertson-Ogle granted him $75,000 bail.
Fung-A-Fat then asked for a smaller bail but his request was denied.
He told the Magistrate that the bail exceeded the value of the US currency.
