DEAR EDITOR,
I’m heartened by the recent successes of the Police/Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG) as they relate to the identification of location and engagement of the Rondell ‘Fine Man’ Rawlins notorious gang at Christmas Falls in the Berbice River.
The recent statements by His Excellency, President Jagdeo, and Honourable Minister Rohee did allude to the eventual capture of this notorious gang.
I am convinced that the administration is doing all within its ability to bring them to justice.
The identification of the gang and their location came after weeks of intense interrogation, arrests and intelligence gathering, of which the Police should be commended.
We saw the deployment of land, sea and air assets, including the same Bell 206 that was touted by the usual anti-government critics, being used.
It is interesting to learn, in the subsequent days, of all those who are involved in the linkages, financial and logistical support, training, provision of arms and ammunition etc.
I look forward to not only this gang being brought down, but also the intellectual author(s) involved.
I eagerly await the opposition, the polarised sections of ‘civil’ society, the non-governmental organisations and the gang’s family members’ pronouncements on the bandits’ saintly attributes and their non-involvement in criminal enterprises.
Additionally, we would see the regular and predictable condemnation on the recent action and successes of the administration and the Joint Services.
We need to ensure that the momentum and pressure is kept up, and the remaining gang members and their existing network are swiftly brought down and destroyed.
