– four held, ammo, face mask found
Police in Berbice believe that they have cracked another criminal gang operating in the county, following the discovery of twenty 12-guage shotgun cartridges and six rounds of .32 ammunition during the search of a house at Adelphi, Canje yesterday.
Police believe that the discovery is linked to a robbery committed on a family last Sunday, and have detained four men for questioning. Those detained are Hakeem Mohamed, Michael Fraser, Deon Fraser and Selwyn Parris.
Kaieteur News understands that early Sunday morning, the Police, acting on information following the robbery, went to a house at Adelphi, where they found a bag which contained a small box with shotgun cartridges and ammunition.
The lone occupant of the house at the time was questioned, and according to reports, he told Police that the articles were given to him for safekeeping by another man, who is suspected to have been involved in criminal activities.
The occupant was subsequently arrested.
Following up on leads provided, the Police then went to another house at Canefield, Canje, where they found a ski mask, which they suspected was used by the bandit during the robbery.
Another man who was in the house was questioned about the item, and he reportedly told Police that his brother, a cane harvester, uses it in the sugar plantation to prevent himself from inhaling toxic insecticide.
Of course investigators did not buy his story, and he, too, was taken into custody.
Further investigations led to the arrest of two other persons whom Police believe are involved.
According to investigators, the items found matched those described by the victims.
