Principal Magistrate Melissa Robertson-Ogle yesterday sentenced a man to one year in prison after he pleaded guilty to an attempt to commit a felony charge.
The accused, 28-year-old Royston Forde, made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates Court for allegedly attempting to commit a felony on June 8.
The court was told that, on the day in question, Forde attempted to steal one vinyl trampoline, valued $120,000, the property of Ray Rahaman. He pleaded guilty.
The man, in his own defence, told the court that he lives in North Sophia and is self employed as a sculptor.
Police prosecutor Sherwin Matthews said that, on the day in question, Forde went into the compound of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at Sheriff and Pike Streets in Campbellville, and was seen attempting to remove the vinyl trampoline.
Matthews added that Forde was seen by public spirited citizens, who raised and alarm.
He was arrested by the citizen who eventually called in the Police, who arrested Forde.
The prosecutor added that Forde is not a first offender, and has been charged in the past for a similar offence.
At that point, Forde blurted out, “Your Worship, I did serve a year fuh that charge”.
After listening to the prosecutor, the magistrate asked the accused whether he wanted to change his plea, since the offense carries a jail sentence.
Forde, however, maintained his guilty plea and got a one-year jail term, but not before the magistrate warned him to change his habit.
