A 22-year-old housewife is battling for her life after being struck down by a vehicle on Tuesday night near Madewini.
Shonette Williams, of Lot 56, Madewini, has not regained consciousness since being hit from behind at around 21:00 hrs on Tuesday while standing near the Madewini bridge.
The victim’s husband, Inshan Williams, said that he had accompanied his wife to his mother-in-law’s home, at Lot 56, Soesdyke.
Mr. Williams said that he had almost reached home when he heard a loud impact. Shortly after, a neighbour shouted to him that his wife had been struck down.
He recalled rushing to the scene and seeing his wife lying unconscious on the roadway, while a vehicle with diplomatic number plates was nearby.
According to Williams, the driver alleged that he had lost control of his vehicle after hitting a dog and had then struck his wife.
He said residents assisted in placing his wife in the vehicle which had struck her and the driver transported her to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
She has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, while the driver has been detained.
