Support the GOLDEN JAGUARS! Support GUYANA! Let’s be proud to be Guyanese! South Africa 2010, here we come!
This preceding theme should be the focus of all Guyana as we move closer to this Saturday’s opening World Cup qualifying fixture against Suriname in Paramaribo.
After all the wrangling and other excessive distractions that has affected the smooth flow of preparations of the national squad Guyanese should now centre their attention on lending support to these sons of the nation as they attempt to make us proud by qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
The following is a release from the Guyana Football Federation:
Guyana drew a bye in the first round and as such was not required to play matches in Stage 1 of the regional CONCACAF qualifying rounds. Just last week the Jaguars’s clash with the Soca Warriors in a friendly practice match helped to put into perspective just how serious their preparation henceforth will have to be.
GFF Technical Director, Jamal Shabazz said that the experience of matching skills with the Warriors was valuable in that it helped to identify strengths and weaknesses of his squad. “The Jaguars will have to pull all the stops and be very mentally aggressive in their approach to Suriname. My guys will be at the peak of their fitness levels”, he said. “The Jaguars will not saunter into the Surinamese jungle but will possess it with courage!” Shabazz said.
For the match on Saturday, many Guyanese are planning to make the trip to Suriname while thousands of Guyanese resident in the neighbouring country are expected to turn out in national colours -gold and green, to cheer the Jaguars on to victory!
With the government offering the green light for the use of the Guyana National Stadium for the return fixture, many sporting fans are expected to turn out in their thousands to witness Guyana’s entry to the next phase of the FIFA 2010 World Cup South Africa
The Guyana National Stadium will be poised to go down in history once more with the magnanimous support expected for the Jaguars’ surge into the next round of qualification for the World Cup.
Guyana’s football fortunes began the tight turn-around in 2005 and ever since then there have been no looking back.
Several Guyanese football players resident overseas have since made their mark within the ranks of the Jaguars and more are indicating their interest to join the squad.
The foreign-based players have largely taken the experience of training with their team-mates in the tropical heat of the Caribbean in their stride, adjusting and adapting to the sometimes less than familiar circumstances and environment. The Jaguars Management Team has also had to tweak their systems in the challenge to ensure the cohesion of the squad.
As the Jaguars poise for the strike that could etch their names into history, the entire football fraternity will be there to support their efforts.
The Federation therefore urge all Guyanese regardless of race and creed to rally around the Golden Jaguars.
There cannot be a West Indian football team at the FIFA World Cup, but there must be a GUYANA team there. The Golden Jaguars is all about GUYANA. It is all about bringing our country greater fame and glory.
