Head of Alpha United’s delegation to the just concluded Guiana’s Club Championship Steve Ninvalle is of the view that much more could have been achieved by the club if the players were more disciplined and committed.
Speaking with Kaieteur Sport, Ninvalle said he was disappointed with the behaviour of some of the players, singling out Andrew Murray as the ring leader. “Some of the players believe they are stars and did not contribute anything much to this team while some others were genuinely committed.”
The first two games which Guyana’s number one club lost could have been different according to Ninvalle, who is also Public Relations Officer of the club.
“They were not hungry enough for victory and that could be substantiated by the performance of the players who started in the final game when a number of the so called stars were left out.”
Coach Gavin Browne made some changes to the squad and truly the starting eleven played much more committed football, the results speak for itself. Ninvalle said when he submits his report to the club executive he hopes the necessary disciplinary action would be taken against the culpable players.
The French Football Federation did all in their power to ensure the team was comfortable and kudos is in order for them and the high level of hospitality both the Guyana and Surinamese teams enjoyed.
Apart from the on field action a number of educational tours were laid on as well as visits to their Museum and the National and Regional Assemblies of Cayenne where the teams were entertained socially.
The French Federation has surely set a high standard for Suriname to emulate next year when they host and Guyana, in 2010.
