DEAR EDITOR,
I write in support of the letter published in SN under the heading “Pensioners need relief”.
I am a retired public officer, who has given Government over 40 years’ service.
My pension is $17,000-plus.
Unlike my other fellow retirees, I have not been fortunate to be re-employed or to get employment elsewhere. I depend on that meager pension.
Don’t get me wrong, I am indeed thankful for it, but like the pensioner in the letter referred to, I cannot maintain myself to the standard to which I am accustomed. Many months I cannot buy milk. We retired public servants need some kind of relief.
Why are we not included in the public servants relief given by the President? Why did we not get 5% plus $4,000, or else why not make a minimum pension of $25,000 for all public servants whose pension is below $25,000?
Please, Mr. President and Mr. Finance Minister, do something for us. We have served our country well.
A.J.
