Regional Executive Officers of Regions Two, Three, Four, Five, Six and Ten yesterday met with Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, to plan activities for the signal events to be held within those regions during the Tenth Caribbean Festival of Arts.
Each participating region plans to host one signal event, which is unique to its district but complementary to Guyana’s efforts for Carifesta X.
Region Two will stage a Mega Concert, Latino Night, Youth Village, Indigenous Village and Cultural Exhibition on August 23 at the Anna Regina Training Centre. A cultural show and mini-fair are being planned for August 24 at the Uitvlugt Community Centre Ground, Region Three; while August 26 has been earmarked by Region Four for the staging of a fashion, drumming and musical show at the Victoria Ground.
In Region Ten, the performing arts will take centre stage at the Lichas Hall, Mackenzie High School and the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground on August 28.
Region Six will stage a sculpture exhibition and community festivals on August 29 at Albion, Corentyne.
Drumming, a craft exhibition and variety concert are being put on by the President Youth Award Guyana (PYARG) on August 30 at the Victoria Ground as part of the Region 5 super concert.
Admission is free for all events.
Apart from the signal events being planned by regional committees, other activities are also slated to come off at the community level.
The Regional Executive Officers are expected to submit their final lists of participants by mid-June to facilitate appearances by international performers.
Crowd control mechanisms formed part of yesterday’s discussion, and will be implemented at the community concerts and signal events.
Technical and human resources are being provided by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport for the regional shows.
