Forty-four-year-old Narine Persaud who was involved in an accident at Hampton Court on the Essequibo Coast on Saturday last has succumbed to his injuries.
Reports are that Persaud died sometime around 19:00h while receiving treatment at the Suddie Hospital.
Earlier in the day Persaud along with a colleague, Arun Persaud, a rice farmer, of Sparta, Essequibo Coast, was on a motorcycle heading to his rice field in Hampton Court when tragedy struck.
Initial reports had stated that a Guyana Revenue Authority vehicle, which was moving at a fast rate, slammed into the motorcycle, causing the rider to lose control.
The driver of the GRA vehicle who was reportedly under the influence of alcohol has since been taken into police custody.
