Marian Burnett preparations for the Olympic Games have been going well. The Guyanese track star, who has taken series of preparation runs to the European circuit ran to her third silver medal on the international scene when she clocked her second fastest time (2:00.91) of the season at the DN Anhalt Grand Prix in Dessau, Germany.
According to commentators at the meet, the Women’s 800m produced one of the fine results as Namibia’s perennial middle distance champion and 2008 African Games silver medalist Agnes Samaria (2:00.44) churned out an season best (SB) for the win over Burnett. 2008 World Indoor Championships favourite Marya Savinova (Russia) was third in 2:01.07 (SB).
The other positions were taken by Denmark’s Rikke Ronholt (2:03.40), Poland’s Agnieszka Sowinksa (2:04.34), Najla Jaber of the Netherlands (2:06.05) and former Russian champion Larisa Chzhao (2:07.05 – SB)
Burnett, while continuing to maintain a good time, fell slightly short in her latest run, clocking 2:01 for 4th place. She informed Kaieteur Sport that the winning time was 2:00:61. She said that, while she did not run faster than the previous week, but she is getting the right preparation and just need to take it one day at a time, one meet at a time and be patient about her times.
Burnett disclosed that she thought she was trying to hard to break the 2 minute barrier, but from here onward she just need to relax a run. Marian will be in action on Wednesday and is of the hope that by the God’s grace she will run better.
