Pandemonium broke out at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) at around 04:00 hrs yesterday when 27-year-old Lloyd Sadloo, who is a suspect in the murders of two Brazilian businessmen, tried to escape from the institution.
The drama began when Sadloo, who was admitted to the GPHC with a gunshot wound to the upper back, somehow managed to pick his handcuffs. He then pushed a female nurse out of his path before fleeing down the back step of Ward B Two. Kaieteur News understands that Sadloo then scaled the western fence and headed for a car that was waiting for him in Thomas Street. Luckily, some of the nurses had raised an alarm and a police rank and a security employee were alerted to the escape.
The two men sprinted after Sadloo and managed to apprehend him. The driver in the waiting car raced away from the scene.Sadloo was taken to the Brickdam Police Station and detained.
Kaieteur News was told that the suspect had offered some of the hospital staff $500,000 to aid in his escape.
The hospital employees reportedly refused the offer.
Sadloo is a suspect in the murders of Brazilians Siverino Pequeno Alves Junior and Francisco Lima, who were shot dead on April 16, during a robbery at the Regency Guest House and Restaurant. Two other men, Ryan Clementson, of Second Street, Mocha/Arcadia, East Bank Demerara, and Charles Hackett, 43, of New Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, have already been charged with the two murders and with armed robbery.
It is alleged that the two men also robbed a third Brazilian, Jose Alenor Ovidio D’ Oliveira, of $1.5M. Sadloo, of Hill Street, Albouystown, was shot by police ranks on April 22 in La Penitence Street, Albouystown. Sadloo, who has previous charges for armed robbery, also fractured his right ankle while jumping from his girlfriend’s back step during his escape bid.
