Steve Lovell, who was charged with murdering University of Guyana student, Dennis Edghill, yesterday walked out of the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court a free man after the case against him was dismissed.
Magistrate Yohance Cave, who was presiding over the Preliminary Inquiry, indicated that there was insufficient evidence against Lovell.
Kaieteur News understands that there was some confusion after police re-arrested Lovell, only to release him shortly after.
The accused was represented by attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes.
Edghill, 23, was stabbed in the neck on February 15, last, at the University’s Turkeyen Campus.
He died the following day at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
It is alleged that Edghill came to the aid of a female student who was punched in the face by a youth who does not attend the university.
Lovell turned himself over to police several days later and was charged with Edghill’s murder.
