A carpenter from Number Two Village, East Canje, Berbice, sustained two gunshot wounds when he was accosted by a gunman while he was about to enter his yard at around midday on Wednesday.
Chandra David Parag was shot in the left hand and right hip by the gunman who demanded cash. Parag resisted.
According to the police, investigations have revealed that Parag had withdrawn a sum of money from a New Amsterdam bank and had returned home in a motor vehicle when he was confronted by a man who was armed with a handgun. It would appear that the bandit, who was with an accomplice, was waiting on a motorcycle.
A source in Berbice said that as Parag emerged from a hire car in front of his home, the bandit held him up and demanded cash.
When the carpenter said he had none, the bandit discharged a round, hitting Parag in the right hand. The bandit again demanded cash and again Parag answered in the negative.
The bandit discharged another round, this time hitting Parag in the left side hip, causing him to collapse to the ground. Police, in a press release, stated that Parag had put up a struggle with the armed bandit who abandoned the robbery attempt and escaped on a motor cycle driven by an accomplice. Chandra David Parag is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Hospital.
