St. Ignatius School Hostel recorded the most impressive win when they inflicted a crushing 17-0 win over Kumu as play in the Rupununi Athletic and Sports Academy/Cyril King Lumber Yard Under-17 Football Competition opened in Lethem last Saturday.
The tournament which is being competed on a round-robin basis also saw wins for Moca Moca who defeated Nappi 2-1, while on Sunday Tabatinga were 6-1 winners over St. Ignatius Secondary School.
In Saturday’s games, on target for the Hostel was John Fiedtkou, who netted a helmet-trick, while Barrington Cipriani, Carl Antone, Garfield Fredericks, Josh Thomas and Tilkaram Bissessar Jr each scored a brace.
A defence error and single strikes from Michael Mondekin and Cyrus Rudolph completed their tally.
In the other game, Ducan Torquarto and Sando Khan netted for Moca Moca and Alexander Joaquin responded for Nappi.
In Sunday’s encounter, Compton Peters lashed in 5 goals for Tabatinga, while Julio McDonald added the other.
Lython Pedro scored the consolation goal for the School.
The competition continues this Sunday with another double-header which will see Tabatinga battle Moca Moca to be followed by the clash between Hostel and Yupukari.
Meanwhile, three newly-trained referees Julio McDonald (St. Ignatius Club), Sydney Melville (Parashara Village) and Paul Faria (Nappi Village) are all having their first taste of action during the competition.
According to an official from the area, the three made good use of the opportunity to be exposed, adding that it would benefit them in terms of their practical development in the game.
