The Guyana National Rifle Association (GNRA) pulled off another successful handgun shoot at the Timehri ranges last Sunday, which attracted a total of 27 participants including ranks from the Guyana Police Force and Bank of Guyana security department.
Watched by a number of spectators, Murtland Smith emerged at the head of the list after turning in a good all round performance.
At the end of the two stage competition, Smith shot an overall 8.301 hit factor pts to win the shoot ahead of Mohamed Qualander in 2nd with 7.23 pts and Handgun captain Dale Hing 3rd with 5.613 pts. Special mention was made of Bank of Guyana’s W. Lambert who finished fourth overall.
Medals and trophies were presented to the winners during a short presentation held after the shoot.
The event opened with the first stage, which was the Practical Pistol obstacle shoot, and Captain Dale Hing (3.29pts) beat James Singh (2.78pts) and Murtland Smith (2.74pts) respectively for the top spot and early lead.
The second stage of the competition, the Falling Plate shoot, which was a basic speed shoot where competitors had to draw from their holsters and hit down five falling plates in the shortest possible time, saw Smith take over the lead for good.
Smith came out the fastest with a hit factor of 5.56pts followed by Qualander with 4.78pts and W. Lambert of the Bank of Guyana with 3.53pts. His combined scores topped the field after the scores were tabulated from the two segments.
