Dear Editor,
Once again we read with horror of pit bulls attacking a man, tearing off his scalp.
Only two days before Roopchand was mauled to death by pit bulls I wrote about a clear and present danger these dogs will pose.
Again I am appealing to the legal authorities to take necessary action to ban these dogs from Guyana.
Pit bull dogs are not your everyday cuddly pet.
Pit bull dogs are vicious killers and will turn on anyone at any given time.
I asked those in charge to contact their counterparts in North America to find out why pit bull dogs were banned from certain states and cities.
Mr. Editor, how many more Guyanese will have to suffer from the jaws of pit bulls before a complete ban is placed on these dogs nation wide?
Are we going to allow this to grow like we allowed squatters to squat on illegal land?
Are we going to allow this to grow like we allowed vendors to set up stalls on streets and roadways?
Are we going to allow this to grow like we allowed discos and bars in residential neighbourhoods and next to places of worship?
Are we going to allow this to grow like we allowed the minibus culture of death?
We see the consequences when the authorities try to put an end to the above mentioned plagues that were allowed to grow out of hand.
First it was a pilot and now it’s a store owner whose dogs killed and mauled humans.
They will pay a few measly bucks to the victims’ family to have this settled out of court with no jail time.
This is the difference between rich and poor.
The poor will grieve for their love ones while the rich continue to kill because they have money to pay.
It is so sad to see how the rich and powerful sees the poor that their life is worthless and a few bucks will do the job.
I urge the legal authorities to ban these types of dogs and jail the owners.
This will be equal justice for rich and poor.
This is the only way to stop an injustice.
