Despite all the rain throughout Saturday and Saturday night last, softball players from Berbice and Demerara took to the field and played two thrilling and fun filled matches at the Everest Cricket Ground.
Adding to the fun in the rain there were Tassa Drums and entertaining sounds from live band with guest artist performing for spectators and players. It was sweet revenge for the Floodlights men who won both matches.
In the first game the Select Demerara Floodlights Squad defeated national softball champion Scottsburg United of Corriverton. Batting first Scottsburg United struggled in the rain and only made 98 runs for 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
S. Murray top scored with 35 runs. Bowling for the Select Demerara Floodlights Squad, Best bowler Samuel Kingston took 3 wickets for 7 runs in his allotted 4 overs, he was well supported by Fidel Singh who took 2 for 19 and Vicky Ramsaywack 2 for 21.
When the Demerara Select team replied, they reached their target in 12 overs, losing five wickets in the process. Player-of-the-match Rajin Mohammed made 41 not out, hitting 5 sixes.
The second match between Floodlights XIII and Ganesh Singh & Brothers saw the former winning the toss and batting first. The made 152 for 5 in their allotted 20 overs with Ricky Deonarain making 47, Derick Ramoutar 25, and Sheik Mohammed, who was adjudged man-of-the-match for taking three spectacular catches and effecting a stumping, made 31.
Bowling for Ganesh Singh & Brothers, Mafzool Khan took 2 for 36. In reply, they were restricted to with 128 for 9 in 20 overs. Fabien Seeraj top scored with 34 and Harribol Singh supported with 14 not out. Bowling for Floodlights XIII, Rahaman Khan, Pitamber Maharaj and Sase Sankar took 2 wickets each.
The action moves to DCC Cricket Ground in Queenstown on Friday night, when the Floodlights Team take on a team, which is expected to include Mark Harper and Clyde Butts.
