Bandits in the interior escaped with $175,000 and a quantity of raw gold after holding up a shop at Puruni, Mazaruni River, last Sunday. The bandits, all of whom were carrying guns, held up three females, including shop attendant Savita Sooklall, during the attack.
According to the Police, Sooklall, 23, was in a room with the shop closed when she responded to someone calling outside.
She observed a man with a firearm, and raised an alarm, causing two other women to join her.
The other armed bandits then joined the first, and they held the women at gunpoint, tying them up with duct tape.
They then ransacked the building and took away the articles before escaping.
