Lower Corentyne, Port Mourant record wins
Play in the Berbice leg of the Republic Bank Right Start national Inter school U-15 40-over cricket competition continued in the Ancient County with matches in the Lower Corentyne zone.
Two matches were played in that zone recently with wins for Lower Corentyne Secondary and Port Mourant Community High (PMCH).
Results of the matches played; at the Port Mourant ground, Port Mourant Community High edged past Corentyne Comprehensive Secondary (CCS) by one wicket off the last delivery of the game in a nail biting encounter.
Comprehensive batted first and were shot out for 84 in 32.2 overs. Bowling for PMCH off spinner Shoroz Ramcharran took 3-11 while national U-15 left arm spinner Gudakesh Motie Kanhai and Berbice U-15 pacer Lionel Lewis supported with 2-7.
PMCH in reply, squeezed to 85-9 off 40 with Lewis contributing 19. Bowling for CCS there were two wickets each for medium pacer Budnarine Persaud, and Berbice U-15 players Veerapen Permaul and leg spinner Shawn Perreira.
In another game, which was also played at the Port Mourant ground, an excellent all round performance by Sasenarine Ernest was the catalyst for Lower Corentyne Secondary’s crushing win over JC Chandisingh Secondary by 96 runs.
Scores in that game; Lower Corentyne batted first and rattled up 179 in 39.5 overs with Deepak Sewcharran leading the way with 46. He received support from Sasenarine Ernest 35, Sharmendra Hardyal 25and Mark Basdeo 22.
Chandisingh in reply were bundled out for 83 in 30 overs, with leg spinner Ernest being the chief destroyer with the ball for Port Mourant. He had splendid figures of 4-1 from 2 overs, with national U-15 pacer Hardyal also having a good game with 3-10 from 6.
The competition is continuing.
