The Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) sponsored Inter-Secondary School Impromptu speaking competition for fourth formers continued with the second round on Tuesday last at the GBTI recreational centre.
The second round saw upsets in both matches with Annandale Secondary School trouncing Richard Ishmael Secondary 805 points to 446 points and School of the Nations, who gained a walkover in the first round, beating last year’s winner President’s College 743 points to 703 points.
In the first contest, the topics selected by Annandale Secondary were: The importance of family, body piercing and tattoos and the value of museums.
The Richard Ishmael Secondary team pulled the topics: Education is the key to success. Can one believe what one reads in the newspaper? How would you ease traffic congestions?
In the second match of the day, the School of the Nations team pulled the topics: A dog is a man’s best friend.
If you could live any place in the world, where would you live and why? At what minimum age should a female marry?
The topics selected by President’s College were: Tell us the most difficult thing you have ever done and how you coped.
What school subject is most useful in everyday life? We should return to the ‘simple’ life.
The judges for the matches contested were Bonita Hunter, John Tracey and Abiola Inniss.
The second round of the Competition will conclude next Tuesday when St. Joseph High School takes on St. Rose’s High and Queen’s College faces off against Central High.
