A 29-year-old man who expressed a sexual interest in the wife of a friend who had earlier invited him to his home for a drink was chopped to death with an axe.
Armanand Dhanraj was found lying in his friend’s yard early yesterday morning by a neighbour who had overheard a heated argument between the two men a few hours prior to the shocking discovery.
Dhanraj’s 51-year-old friend who reportedly admitted to killing him with the axe is in police custody assisting with investigations.
According to reports, Dhanraj, a labourer of Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder, was passing by the suspect’s house in the village when he was invited in for a drink.
After consuming a significant amount of alcohol, the two men became heavily intoxicated.
A heated argument erupted after Dhanraj reportedly told his friend that he wanted to sleep with his wife.
This angered the suspect and the two men began fighting. It is alleged that the suspect grabbed an axe and dealt Dhanraj several chops which resulted in his death. This was around 00:30 hours.
According to reports, the suspect then locked his gate to prevent anyone from entering, leaving Dhanraj’s lifeless body on the ground.
At around 05:30 hours, a neighbour observed Dhanraj lying motionless in a pool of blood and immediately contacted the police who subsequently arrested the suspect.
Kaieteur News understands that Dhanraj sustained two wounds on the left side of his forehead, another on his head and one more to the jaw.
The suspected murder weapon was recovered at the scene and a post mortem examination is expected to be performed on Dhanraj’s body today.
