The first round of the Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry (GBTI) Inter-secondary school impromptu speaking competition concluded last Tuesday with St Joseph High School defeating Marian Academy.
The match-up saw the victorious institution securing a total of 696 points, which represented 90 points more than the losing school.
The St Joseph High team exhibited great understanding in addressing the selected topics, which called for solutions to solving the garbage problem in the city, illiteracy, and the minibus problem.
Marian Academy team on the other hand could not out-do its competition with its attempts to speak on a trip into the future, actions speak louder than words, and the notion that a bank account is essential.
The judges for the match were Dr Joyce Jonas, Mr John Barnes and Mr Sheik Sadik.
The second round of competition is slated to commence today with President’s College going up against School of the Nations and Richard Ishmael clashing with Annandale Secondary.
