Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) will be embarking on some new training programmes to provide its expanded customer base with electricity service and training.
These training programmes will be aimed at providing the competency required for international performance standard.
An energy-management training programme will be held over two days from May 23 at the GPL training centre, Sophia Complex. The training exercise is open to the public and industries.
This newspaper understands that the programmes will be customized in some cases and will be run according to the needs of the power sector.
According to reports, one of the tasks of the Training and Development Department (T&DD) is to provide thorough training, energy conservation and management skills which are required to enable GPL customers to become more familiar and to acquire the appropriate skill, knowledge and attitude of Energy Management.
According to GPL, ultimately this process would contribute towards achieving an improved business and financial sector, the creation of more viable, competitive and sustainable enterprises, the development of sound skill, knowledge and attitude in Energy Management.
The course content includes managing energy cost, electricity (from purchase to end use), energy basics, thermal energy losses, units of energy and power, electricity basics – power factor, importance and usefulness of thermal energy, cost of purchasing energy, saving opportunities and more.
The cost of this training is $7,000 per participant.
