Dear Editor,
What a vast difference in our capacity to respond and deaI with economic turbulences and sharply rising prices of basic food and other items at the present time as compared to the period before 1992 under the previous administration.
The population is not left to themselves to survive or sink or swim, but our present government has stepped in with a menu of measures to help keep prices down plus providing financial and other assistance to help the people to meet the challenges and shocks.
Public servants are no longer called upon to work at Hope Estate and elsewhere to obtain some cooking oil, salt, matches or a packet of cigarettes and other items.
Nor do we have to go to the euphemistically named Knowledge Sharing Institutes, PNC outlets to purchases the few items available, which mostly party supporters got.
In addition to what the present government has done and is doing, they are providing huge amounts to keep down the effects of rapidly rising fuel prices and the cost of obtaining electricity and potable water supplies, the cost of transportation, plus many other interventions in other sectors.
There are difficulties yes, but also increased capacity and resources acquired through prudent financial and economic management, transparency and accountability to benefit the communities and people across the country.
