Play in the Berbice leg of the Republic Bank ‘Right Start’ national Inter school U-15 40-over cricket competition got started in Berbice with Skeldon High already winning the Upper Corentyne Zone.
The competition will be played in categories starting with the inter-school competitions in the various zones, which will be followed by the inter-zone competition and finally the inter-district competition.
In results of matches played in the Upper Corentyne Zone: at the No 64 ground; Skeldon High beat Tagore Memorial by 84 runs. Skeldon High batted first and made 142 in 26.4 overs with Ashram Razack top scoring with 58 (7×4,1×6). Bowling for Tagore, pacers Andrew Johnson 4-44 and Kelvin Parmanand 3-29 did the damage.
In reply Tagore were shot out for a paltry 58 in 12.3 overs.
Off spinner Clyde Pestano was unplayable, bowling for the winners with figures of 6-23 from 6.3 overs while medium pacer Laurex Stewart had 2-7 from one over.
In another game at the Scotsburg ground, Skeldon High whipped Skeldon Line Path Secondary by 152 runs.
Scores in that game; Skeldon High batted first and posted a daunting 220 in just 38.4 overs with Razack again among the runs with 48, he received support from Delon Hinds 36 and Nicolai Ceres 33. Bowling for the losers off spinner Lakeram Tameshwar picked up 4-36.
In reply, Skeldon Line path were routed for a meager 68 in 18 overs. Bowling for the winners Pestano and Stewart again were the destroyers with 4-30 from 6 and 3-14 from 4 overs respectively.
In the final game also at the Scotsburg ground; Skeldon Line Path Secondary (SLPS) got the better of Tagore Memorial by 58 runs.
Scores in the game; SLPS batted first and made 151 in 22 overs with Tarique Chaitram making 41.
Bowling for Tagore off spinners Delon Persaud 4-22 and the Naim Yacoob 4-24 did the damage.
In reply Tagore was bundled out for 93 in 16 overs. Doing the damage with the ball for SLPS was off spinner Lakeram Tameshwar with 6-28 from 7 overs.
The officials from the branch will now meet to select the Branch team to participate in the inter branch competition of the Corentyne District. Upper Corentyne will compete against Central and Lower Corentyne
