Kaieteur News – A 45-year-old man known as ‘Bread’ drowned around 06:30 hrs on Monday, while taking a bath in Lake Capoey, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.
Police identified the dead man as Andrew Edwards, a labourer of Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast.
His cousin, Alex Richards, told police that Edwards was drinking “high wine” with some villagers when he left to have a bath in the lake.
Edwards reportedly went into the lake about 200 feet away from shore when he suddenly raised his two hands in the air before disappearing under the water.
The villagers and Richards realized that Andrews was in trouble and went into the lake to rescue him but sadly he drowned before they could reach him.
His body was found submerged. The villagers retrieved Edwards’ body from the lake and alerted police.
Andrew’s body was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital for further examination before being sent to the mortuary.

Drinking High Wine creates “heat” in your body after a while, coupled
with the natural temps in Guyana. Hence, cooling down the body is
required.
