A 20-year-old drug dealer was yesterday jailed for three years after he was found guilty on the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
The man, Vishal Evans called Sham Evans or Sham Paul, of Ross Village, West Coast Berbice, appeared before Magistrate Rhondell Weaver in the Fort Wellington Magistrate’s Court.
The court was told by Prosecutor Corporal Rochelle Mars that on May 31, the accused was among a group of men liming on a bridge at Number 11 Back Street, West Coast Berbice.
They were approached by a police patrol and decided to run. The police gave chase and Evans was nabbed after a lively pursuit through the village.
He was searched and a black plastic bag was found in his right side pants pocket. A further check of the bag revealed 10 Ziploc bags which contained 27 ½ grams of leaves, seeds and stems of the marijuana plant. Also found was a cigarette pack with 7 ½ grams of cocaine and $15,380 in his left side pants pocket.
