Guyana’s leading youth and sports organisation, the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, since 2004 has hosted the Annual Busta Champion of Champions tournament with sponsorship from the Guyana Beverage Company under the dynamic leadership of General Manager Robert Selman.
The tournament over the years had developed into Berbice’s premier cricket competition with unmatched organisation, Radio commentary, play of the highest level, a very attractive financial package and huge crowds at its finals due to quality promotion.
The Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club and the Guyana Beverage Company after much discussion has agreed to play the 2017 edition of the Busta Champion of Champions using the softball version.
A total of 22 teams drawn from across the Ancient County of Berbice would be invited to be a part of this historic tournament which would also be used to promote the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Say No/Say Yes Message.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the decision was very difficult to make but informed that the climate in Berbice cricket under the present leadership was not conducive and his club did not want to be caught up in personal vendetta, setting of personal scores and cricket politics.
Among the teams that are expected to play in the tournament are Rising Star, Hustlers, Shamie Grocery, Chesney, Rose Hall Canje, Grill Master, Letter Kenny, Tain, Canje Pathfinders, Hard Knock of Alness, Underdogs, Toopoo, Hampshire and Rose Hall Town.
The tournament would be played over three different weekends at the Hampshire, Rose Hall Canje and Rose Hall Town grounds.
The first round would be played for 5-overs per side, second round and semifinals 10-overs per side while the 3rd place playoff and the final will be contested using the T20 format.
The tournament would only allow round-hand bowling while only Berbice players shall be allowed to play. The prize package would be worth close to $300,000 while the organisers would provide balls and umpires.
Interested teams are encouraged to call RHTY&SC Assistant Secretary Simon Naidu on telephone number 337 4562 or 614 1008 for more information or email: [email protected].
The deadline for entry is Tuesday August 8th, next and entrance forms are available at the RHTYSC Area ‘H’ ground Office.
