The long standing and highly successful relationship between Republic Bank and the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club, MS, was renewed for the 11th successive year on Thursday last. The Bank at a simple presentation ceremony at its Rose Hall Town Branch handed over a cheque worth $174,000 to the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club as sponsorship of the 11th annual Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club/Republic Bank Educational August Holiday Camp.
Club Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that since 2007, the Bank has been sponsoring the Camp which caters for Grade Six students preparing for entrance into Secondary School when the new school term begins in September.
The main objectives of the Camp which started on Monday 10th July, 2017, are to prepare students for a successful; transition to Secondary School, to promote the importance of discipline and education, while educating youths on their status as role models. The Camp is being conducted by Senior Educator, Rohan Etwaru and students would be taught Maths, English, Social Studies, Integrated Science and Spanish. The students would be involved in learning to play the game of cricket and also be part of the lectures on a wide range of topics of interest to them. These topics include Depression, Personal Hygiene, Suicide, Manners in the Classroom and Choosing Friends among others.
The long serving Club Official disclosed that over 600 students have benefitted from the Camp over the years and stated that almost all of them were able to make a successful transition to Secondary School. He expressed gratitude to the Management and Staff of Republic Bank, especially the Rose Hall Town Branch for their co-operation over the years and described the Bank as a true friend of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club.
Special mention was made of Theresa Foo, Manager’s Assistant Seema Brijemal and Branch Manager Harry Dass Ganesh. The Bank also co-sponsors the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club Annual Magazine, Award Ceremony, Rose Hall Town Anniversary Celebration, Charity Programme and is the sponsor of the RHTYSC/Republic Bank Under-17 Cricket Tournament.
Each child attending the Camp would receive a school bag and exercise books, while the top ten students would also be honoured at the end of the five weeks Camp.
The Camp is been organised by the eight cricket teams of the Rose Hall Town Youth & Sports Club – Rose Hall Town Farfan & Mendes Under-15, Bakewell Under-17 and Second Division, Pepsi Under-19 and Intermediate, Metro Female, Gizmos & Gadgets Under-21and First Division Teams.
