Inmates from the New Amsterdam Prison on Saturday during a prison brawl sustained injuries about their bodies after a fight erupted.
The injured prisoners have been identified as 18-year- old Kishon Jeriwan who is currently serving a two-year sentence for break and enter and larceny; 20-year-old Joshua Sewchan, convicted for trafficking narcotics; and 25-year-old Quincy Goodhart who was sentenced to three years for possession of gun and ammunition.
According to reports, while in the Convicted Mess Hall of the New Amsterdam Prison, Goodhart approached fellow inmate Jeriwan to inquire about cellular phone credit when an argument broke out. Goodhart reportedly dealt Jeriwan a punch to the face.
Kaieteur News understands that it was then that Jeriwan left and returned with a piece of wood and dealt Goodhart several blows about his body. Goodhart then whipped out a ‘make-shift’ weapon he had on his waist and stabbed Jeriwan five times about his body, and in the process also injured another inmate, Joshua Sewchan.
The prisoners were escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where they were admitted.
Investigations are ongoing.
