Points leaders Den Amstel lost some amount of momentum when their winning streak was snapped by new kids on the block Golden Warriors on Monday last as play in the West Demerara Football Association (WDFA) / Stag Senior League continued at the Den Amstel Community ground.
The result would have been a good one for Golden Warriors which two days earlier had lost to Pouderoyen by the narrowest of margins, 0-1.
Den Amstel tried their utmost but just could not break down the stubborn defence of the Warriors, each team having to settle for a single point.
In the day’s other match, Young Achievers, a Pouderoyen based team, sailed to a 3-0 win over Stewartville, thanks to a couple of goals from Lloyd Prince who scored either side of the half.
Prince opened proceedings in the 15th minute; the goal stood alone until the second half when the lead was doubled on account of an Eon King goal in the 54th minute. Five minutes to full time, Prince closed shop with his second and Young Achievers’ third goal to seal the deal 3-0.
Matches will continue this weekend with double headers on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Uitvlugt Warriors will aim to secure full points when they tackle Beavers in the main attraction. Opening play brings together Jetty Gunners and Wales United.
Sunday’s main attraction will see Den Amstel taking on FC Eagles in what is anticipated to be a keen tussle while the first match pits Stewartville against Vegae Boys.
Matches will be played at 14:00hrs and 16:00hrs.
