A Tucville, Georgetown resident was beaten, tied and forced to lie under his bed by five bandits, who emptied his home around 22:15 hrs on Sunday. The incident occurred at 998 Critchlow Street.
After the ordeal, the victim, Myron Christopher was forced to seek treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital after sustaining injuries to his head.
According to information received, Christopher had just arrived home and pushed his door in a little—he was going to put his bag down then return to lock the door but instead, he stayed in his room a bit longer.
In an interview, the victim said that he was sitting on his bed when a man holding a gun forced his way into the room and demanded that he stand.
“Another one came in behind the first one and I could have seen two other persons who were wearing masks standing outside the room,” Christopher recalled.
He said that two of the five men were armed.
According to the victim, he was beaten in the head after which the men tied him and demanded that he lie under the bed. He said that the men first took his phone and then took a basket with his clothes.
Kaieteur News was told that while Christopher was under the bed, the men escaped with money and jewellery along with household appliances.
The victim’s landlord, Shawn Austin, said that while he was asleep, his family was watching television but heard no sound downstairs. He said that they only learnt of the robbery when Christopher ran up their steps and started shouting for thief. .
According to Austin, Sunday night’s robbery was the latest in a series of incidents that has been occurring in the community.
“On Sunday night, continuous efforts to get a patrol from East La Penitence station which is a mere five minutes away, took one and a half hours before ranks turned up. Calls were made to the station first at approximately 10:34pm when the incident occurred then again at 10:55pm,” he said.
After the police did not show up, Austin was forced to call the Commander of ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken, who is on leave.
Ranks turned up less than 10 minutes after a call was placed to the commander.
