The Office of the Leader of the Opposition by way of a statement, said that it is saddened by the news of the passing of Bishop Randolph George. Bishop George was one of the first Guyanese to lead a major Christian denomination in Guyana.
As a Leader of the Christian clergy, Guyana will remember and cherish his role in the Guyana Council of Churches and subsequent involvement in the Caribbean Conference of Churches in the fight to restore democracy, and in protection and defence of human rights in Guyana during the final days of the PNC dictatorship, the statement added.
Moreover, the Office of the Leader of the Opposition extends its condolences to the immediate family, relatives and friends of Bishop George. “May his gentle soul rest in peace.”
And in yet another statement, the Chairman, Executive Members and Council of the Private Sector Commission, said that they are deeply saddened at the passing of The Right Reverend (retired) Bishop Randolph George. It said that Bishop George was the very embodiment of his creed of service to others. In his case, his dedication extended into service of the nation which he embraced with his characteristic humility.
Bishop George worked closely with the Private Sector Commission in the early years of the Commission’s existence and, particularly, while he headed the Integrity Commission. He was a strong proponent of democracy who lived his beliefs. Bishop George will indeed be missed by the nation he served.
The Private Sector Commission extended heartfelt sympathy to the wife and children of the late Bishop Randolph George and to the entire Anglican community.
