The Childcare and Protection Agency (CC&PA) has taken a keen interest in the case involving the arraignment of five teens for the murder of retired professor Pairadeau Mars.
Officials are trying to ascertain whether the parents of the three minors should be held accountable for any delinquent behaviour that caused their children to end up with murder charges.
“We are looking into the matter to see how we can hold the parents accountable,” a CC&PA official said yesterday.
“Parents have to take responsibility for their children’s behaviour. Where are the parents? These are children who are underage, and the parents have control, and should give account for them. We don’t want more of this. We want parents to wake up and take more control, to take charge. Parenting is the issue here. Who has been parenting these children?”
Continuing on the issue of negligent parents, the official observed that “a lot of (underage) girls are going out and having sex and bringing home money, and the parents are saying nothing. That is trafficking. A lot of times parents are the traffickers of their girls.”
On Tuesday, five teens were remanded for the murder of 75-year-old Pairadeau Mars, who was found bound, gagged and strangled in his Lot 395 Bissessar Street Prashad Nagar home, two Thursdays ago.
The accused included two girls, aged 15 and 17, as well as one 15-year-old boy. The eldest accused was said to be 18. According to reports, the 17-year-old girl was living at the home of one of the boys, who is 16.
The 17-year-old female accused was reportedly known to the professor since she would usually visit his home. The teenage girl reportedly told police that she contacted her 16-year-old boyfriend and told him that they could have robbed the pensioner since he was home alone.

This is the 21st century and the children in Guyana are doing whatever, whenever, however they want to do what they want to do. It’s not like back in the 70’s, 80’s and even 90’s I am grateful to God for the upbringing, values and morals I was brought up with and I thank my late beloved mother for doing such and excellent job raising four kids without a father, thank you Mom, may your soul rest in peace.
