Police have recovered several stolen cell phones and an unlicensed firearm after arresting six suspects in connection with last Friday’s heist at A. N. Electronics Store in Croal Street.
A release stated that around 05.30 hrs on Sunday, ranks from ‘A’ Division swooped down on a house at Middle Road, La Penitence.
During a search, police recovered an unlicensed .32 revolver, three rounds of ammunition and several stolen cellular phones.
“Six persons, most of whom are known to the police, were arrested and one has already
confessed to ownership of the firearm and ammunition. Charges are to be instituted,” the release stated.
“It is believed that the police will be able to make a breakthrough in a number of unsolved crimes with the arrest, following an analysis of the phones recovered and ballistic tests of the firearm.”
The robbery at A. N. Electronics Store had occurred at around 15.30 hrs, with the robbers, who all had handguns, escaping in a silver-grey Toyota vehicle with computers and other items, after gun-butting at least one employee.
According to reports, one of the men first approached a staffer whom he claimed had recently sold him a cell phone. Because the store had not sold that brand recently, that staff became suspicious.
However, before they could activate an alarm, two other men, all armed with guns, joined the ‘customer’ and ordered the employees to lie on the ground, while assaulting one staffer.
The men then gathered up several items before escaping in a silver-grey Toyota Runx.
