After suffering a heart-related ailment over the weekend, Minister of Agriculture Noel Holder has returned to work. This development was announced yesterday by the Government Information Agency (GINA) which stated in a bulletin that “the Minister was discharged from the Caribbean Heart Institute (CHI), where he had undergone tests and was monitored for a heart rhythm disorder.”
This publication was informed that the Minister, who is currently in his late 60s, had complained of chest pains and was initially taken to the St Joseph Mercy Hospital at Parade Street, Georgetown, for medical attention.
He was on Monday admitted as a patient at CHI, a public/private entity which operates out of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation to have a heart rhythm disorder addressed.
Heart rhythm disorder is an abnormal variation from the normal heartbeat, but according to an expert in the field, the condition is usually not life-threatening.
According to reports, the Minister had in the past suffered a similar cardiac-related episode at which time he was treated overseas. Reports suggest that he had on occasions attended cardiac clinics at CHI.
Minister of Public Health, Dr George Norton, in commenting on his colleague’s condition, had noted that despite suffering a repeat of the disorder, the Agriculture Minister was on Monday in a stable condition but needed to undergo further observation.
