Sparta Boss, the current national street football champions, will spearhead a star-studded Georgetown contingent that will be aiming to grab the top prizes when Second Ground Entertainment stages its inaugural ‘ballers in the summer’ Stag Beer Knockout Competition from July 24-26, at the Pouderoyen Tarmac, West Demerara.
The Competition which will have at stake prize monies totaling over $500,000 in cash and prizes is expected to feature 16 teams from the West Demerara, Georgetown and East Bank of Demerara in a battle over three days that is already being dubbed as a showdown between East and West.
West Demerara will be represented by Showstoppers, DeKinderen United, Samaroo Dam, Patentia Street Ballers, Admiral United, Brothers United, West Side Ballers, Raiders, Dem Amstel, Uitvlugt and Parfaite Harmonie.
Apart from Sparta Boss, the other teams invited to participate from the East are North Ruimveldt, West Front Road-Gold is Money and Queen Street of Tiger Bay and they are classified as the representatives of Georgetown, while Agricola is the lone delegate from the East Bank of Demerara.
The winning team will take home $200,000, runner-up $150,000, 3rd place $50,000 and 4th place $20,000, while the Organisers have revealed that special giveaways for the Ladies will be part of the proceedings every night.
The opening matchup of the night at 19:00hrs will see Agricola go up against West Front Road-Gold is Money, while North Ruimveldt tackles Uitvlugt in the second fixture at 19:30hrs. In the third game, DeKinderen clashes with Samaroo Dam from 20:00hrs, while at 20:30hrs, Queen Street of Tiger Bay square off against Patentia Street Ballers in the match that follows.
Brothers United then engages Admiral United from 21:00hrs, before West Side Ballers and Parfaite Harmonie collide at 21:30hrs. Sparta Boss takes on Den Amstel in the penultimate game of the evening from 22:00hrs, before Showstoppers matches stride with Raiders to bring the curtains down on opening night.
Apart from Ansa McAl under its Stag Beer brand, the other sponsors on board are Golf Motor Oil, Tojos Sports Club and A. Forrester Lumber Yard among others.
