Tragedy struck the family of Chester Reddock, also known as ‘Bloop’, when the taxi driver lost control
of his vehicle in the wee hours of yesterday morning, slammed into a parked truck and died instantly upon impact. He leaves to mourn his four-month-old son.
According to police reports, the 42-year-old, of Hopetown Village, West Coast Berbice (WCB), collided with the parked lorry about 5:00hours when speeding along the Bush Lot Public Road.
This publication learnt that Reddock was returning home when he lost control, veered over to the right lane and slammed into the back of a parked rice truck on the roadway in the vicinity of a Chester Fried Fast Food complex.
Family members rushed to the scene of the accident and pulled the man from the mangled car before transporting him to the Fort Wellington Hospital. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital.
As family members received the dreadful news of Reddock’s death, screams could be heard ringing throughout the hospital. Reddock, who also worked as a driver for school children, suffered from a broken neck and injuries to the chest.
According to a senior police official, evidence seems to suggest that the 42-year-old fell asleep behind the wheel. However, investigations are still ongoing to verify the cause.
