Diamond United sprung the biggest surprise yet on day three of the inaugural
Lens Craft Optical sponsored East Bank Football Association Under-13 league which continued at the Grove Playfield yesterday with three matches.
A Diamond United unit led by Captain Teon Forde handed Herstelling Raiders their first defeat of the league by a 2-0 margin with goals either side of play.
Grove Hi Tech clawed their way to a 5-0 drubbing of Craig, while the day’s opening game produced an exciting 2-2 draw between Kuru Kururu Warriors and Mocha Champs.
Diamond, improving with game, played a solid game marshalled by Forde who scored the sealer in the 38th minute. The opening goal was converted by Joshua Lynch in the 22nd minute a shot that beat goalkeeper Kandoo James from about 30 yards out.
Herstelling though, created many chances but were miserable with their shots on goal which went wide of the target. Even their inspiration scorer, Shoran James couldn’t save them on the day from losing their first game in three matches.
Grove Hi Tech were led a comprehensive win over Craig by a pair of goals each from Akeem Williams in the 30th and 60th and Devon Padmore who hit the network in the 45th and 48th minute. The other goal was an own goal that was scored in the 41st minute by Craig’s Emanuel Dey.
The day’s action got off to an exciting start with Kuru Kururu Warriors and Mocha Champs battling to a 2-2 draw.
The Warriors opened the scoring in the first minute of play through an Oric Austin goal. It took some time for Mocha to get their length and they did so after a lengthy period of domination in the 24th minute, thanks to the first of a double form the nippy Ian Mars.
Kevon Scott restored the advantage for the Warriors in the 39th minute but that joy was short lived as one minute later Mars was again on target with a stinging left foot shot that sealed an even share of the points for his side.
Three more matches will be contested on Saturday as the action heats up.
